About the Author: Stan and Allen
Huxley Ren Bunn wrote and illustrated Stan and Allen: A Book About Gender. Huxley identifies as non-binary and uses he/him and they/them pronouns. He has faced challenges coming out to people who are unfamiliar with what being non-binary means. Wanting to help others in similar situations, Huxley set out to create a simple, non-threatening way to explain non-binary identity to people of any age.
Stan and Allen marks Huxley’s debut in the world of children's books. He drew inspiration from some of his favorite titles, including Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich and The Spider and the Fly.

Huxley believes their best art comes from being 100% authentic. This has led them to create art centered around gender identity—being non-binary—as well as ADHD and mental health awareness. Educating others on these topics and more is what inspires Huxley to create.
MORE ABOUT HUXLEY
Huxley is 25 years old and from San Diego, California.
They got their start at 14, painting surfboards. One day, a neighbor gave Huxley an old surfboard as a gift and, knowing Huxley’s love for art, suggested they paint it—and Huxley did! From there, Huxley began painting more boards and eventually started accepting commissions. A selection of Huxley’s custom-painted surfboards can be found on the Fine Arts page.
FUN FACTS
Huxley loves sharks and hopes to help end shark finning.
Huxley’s visit to the Venice Biennale art festival in 2017 solidified their dream of pursuing a life in art.
Huxley is very, very good at finding coins—but terribly bad at opening doors.
Huxley enjoys playing poker in their free time and would love to get absolutely demolished at the WSOP one day.
Huxley's favorite book is The Death of Ivan Ilyich and their least favorite is Moby-Dick.
